Simplify the operation
Reduce (simplify) the fractions to their lowest terms equivalents:
- To reduce a fraction to the lowest terms equivalent: divide both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor, GCF.
The fraction: 6,028/22
- The prime factorizations of the numerator and denominator:
- 6,028 = 22 × 11 × 137
- 22 = 2 × 11
- Multiply all the common prime factors: if there are repeating prime factors we only take them once, and only the ones having the lowest exponent (the lowest powers).
- GCF (6,028; 22) = 2 × 11 = 22
6,028/22 = (6,028 ÷ 22)/(22 ÷ 22) = 274/1 = 274
The fraction can also be reduced without calculating GCF; factor the numerator and denominator and cross out all the common prime factors:
6,028/22 = (22 × 11 × 137)/(2 × 11) = ((22 × 11 × 137) ÷ (2 × 11))/((2 × 11) ÷ (2 × 11)) = 274/1 = 274
The fraction: 6,038/24
- 6,038 = 2 × 3,019
- 24 = 23 × 3
- GCF (6,038; 24) = 2
6,038/24 = (6,038 ÷ 2)/(24 ÷ 2) = 3,019/12
The fraction can also be reduced without calculating GCF; factor the numerator and denominator and cross out all the common prime factors:
6,038/24 = (2 × 3,019)/(23 × 3) = ((2 × 3,019) ÷ 2)/((23 × 3) ÷ 2) = 3,019/12
